Kia Ora, WELCOME!!!

Welcome to Term 1 for 2012.

This term has started off on a very positive note for all the young ladies in Hine Kaha. We have been very busy with forming strong bonds between all the girls and setting ourselves up for a successful term and year. Lots of fantastic work has already been completed, and now we are starting to prepare ourselves for new units of work and camp at Tarawera during week 7.

Apirana Ngata House staff are a strong vibrant bunch this year with Ms Taute as our Team Leader, Matua James in the all boys class - "Te Ara Poutama A Tane" in A2, and Whaea Hinewaho in A3.

We have a very busy term ahead of us with competitions such as  Class Chants, House Boards,  House Haka Comp, Swimming Sports, and Tarawera Camp just to name a few. Keep an eye on our school panui which will always have important dates noted. I will be in constant contact with whanau throughout the terms to make sure we are all notified and kept up to date on events and important dates. I will also keep you well informed of trips, homework, and any other expectations in advance.

If you have any queries regarding anything please do not hesitate to contact myself or the school office. There will be a small group of students who will be in charge of updating this blog on a regular basis so please check in and sign up as a follower.

TERM 3

Kia Ora Whanau,

Welcome to the beginning of yet another busy term at RIS.
Hine Kaha will be continuing to work on design projects by turning something old into something new. The girls will also be going on two trips, one to the Rotorua Museum and the other to Action World in Taupo.
Also this term there are High School orientation days and testing for class placements for 2012. I do encourage all girls to attend all the orientations, if not for enrolement possibilities, then for the experience that each High School  provides during these visits.

Other programs being carried out this term include:
- Growing Great Girls - a program designed to help young ladies make the right choices, form positive relationships with others, and how to handle different and difficult situations that may arise.
- Sign Language - each girl is learning the basic Australasian Language for the Hearing Impaired.
- Production - Hine Kaha have been asked to produce and perform a small production to Jesse J's Price Tag.  If time permits the girls will be able to present this to not only our own school but all our contributing schools in Rotorua.

As you can see, the girls have a busy term ahead. Please feel free to visit our class during the day and lend a hand where able to.

our class trip o the wall

When our class had first walked into the wall some of our class were horrified and some were excited .This was to help overcome fears and team build together as a group. We supported each other in climbing the wall. Some of the girls were nervous and did not trust their team. As we climbed more we became more confident. Wall climbing was a great experience for us all. We had great fun.
Thanks to Simon and his team, also thanks to the parents’ that came with us if you weren’t there we wouldn’t have gone.

Road Run

Hine Kaha has been doing a miharo (amazing) run to get us fit for our health and wellbeing.  We run 1km and power walk 500 metres. Our aim is to run 1.5km without stopping by the end of term three.  We run in two lines with the slower runners at the front to set the pace.  When we first started this run it took us approximately 16 minutes, it now takes us 11 minutes which means our fitness has improved.

Gnocchi

Hine kaha has recently cooked gnocchi to go a long side with our language work which is Italian.
Gnocchi is a traditional Italian dish which is basically potato pasta with a tomato sauce.
The girls did really well making it for our first time. We all had our own opinion towards the dish, but overall it is a nice family dish.

Haka

House haka comps were intense and competitive, it took a lot of training and listening. Hine Kaha and Stafford house were really excited about the competition. I think the haka competition has brought us closer to kapahaka, and Maori culture. After all the training the day finally came, we performed to our best and gave it our all, all the hard work paid off and we ended up winning it. Our house was joyful and excited, it was a great experience.
WELL DONE STAFFORD HOUSE!!

The Council Chambers

The first we heard of councilor Karen Hunt, Hine Kaha was really exited to see her and talk with her about being a leader and on Tuesday 12th of April we went to the Council Chambers Hine Kaha meet Karen Hunt. We went into a big room and she started talking about herself and what she did before having a good job like this. She told us that she was a trained nurse, she saved up as much money as she could and travelled to heaps of different places all over the world.
She also told us that that is why she got her job as a councilor. We talked about being a leader and having to give yourself to the community. She was happy to do that to help people when needed. She did art and a whole lot of things and we appreciated talking to her because she gave us a whole lot to think about.
Thank you Karen Hunt
