Road Run

Hine Kaha has been doing a miharo (amazing) run to get us fit for our health and wellbeing.  We run 1km and power walk 500 metres. Our aim is to run 1.5km without stopping by the end of term three.  We run in two lines with the slower runners at the front to set the pace.  When we first started this run it took us approximately 16 minutes, it now takes us 11 minutes which means our fitness has improved.

Gnocchi

Hine kaha has recently cooked gnocchi to go a long side with our language work which is Italian.
Gnocchi is a traditional Italian dish which is basically potato pasta with a tomato sauce.
The girls did really well making it for our first time. We all had our own opinion towards the dish, but overall it is a nice family dish.

Haka

House haka comps were intense and competitive, it took a lot of training and listening. Hine Kaha and Stafford house were really excited about the competition. I think the haka competition has brought us closer to kapahaka, and Maori culture. After all the training the day finally came, we performed to our best and gave it our all, all the hard work paid off and we ended up winning it. Our house was joyful and excited, it was a great experience.
WELL DONE STAFFORD HOUSE!!

The Council Chambers

The first we heard of councilor Karen Hunt, Hine Kaha was really exited to see her and talk with her about being a leader and on Tuesday 12th of April we went to the Council Chambers Hine Kaha meet Karen Hunt. We went into a big room and she started talking about herself and what she did before having a good job like this. She told us that she was a trained nurse, she saved up as much money as she could and travelled to heaps of different places all over the world.
She also told us that that is why she got her job as a councilor. We talked about being a leader and having to give yourself to the community. She was happy to do that to help people when needed. She did art and a whole lot of things and we appreciated talking to her because she gave us a whole lot to think about.
Thank you Karen Hunt

Self Defence

In term one all year 8 girls did self defence with Ellison, Hine Kaha was lucky to go first. We had a blast learning kicks, punching and more. We learnt new games and how to use our voices. This amazing experience was for one and a half days. At the end of it we were given a Self Defence Poster and a certificate each for participating in Self Defence. We were amazed with what we can use in our home like using perfume and spraying it in the offenders eyes and blinding him for awhile, or using a comb and scratching him/her and getting skin cells to take to the police to get him/her identified by the police.

Tarawera Camp

Term 1 we went to camp, it was a great experience for HineKaha. Camp brought us closer, getting to know each other better and doing all the activities all together. Out at Tarawera we had great fun with Poutama and all Stafford Teachers playing sports and challenging them with all sorts of activities. We had heaps of fun out at Tarawera. It was a blast!
